KATHMANDU: Minister for Information and Communications, Shankar Pokharel has conferred the Bharati Kharel Memorial Award on scholar Jagannath Sharma Tripathi.
The Award was given away at a function organised at Sinamangal on the occasion of the 73rd Birth Anniversary of litterateur Bharati Kharel.
The award carries a purse of Rs 51,000 and a copper plaque. The ailing scholar Tripathi was provided the Award at his home.
Scholar Tripathi is an expert on astrology, translation, Purana recitation and religious and literary sermons.
On the occasion, Minister Pokharel stressed that the knowledge that the senior citizens have should be transferred to the new generation. The knowledge of the honoured personality Tripathi should be utilised for the welfare of the nation, Minister Pokharel added.
Similarly, he said the time guided solely by politics has gone after the Loktantra was ushered in.
"Leadership of Nepali society has been changed and it is the time new dimension took a lead in societal development now," he said.
On the occasion, literati Prayag Raj Bhattarai 'Basista', Mukunda Lamichhane and Shailendra Shakar shed light on the award recipient.
